Palm Springs Aerial Tramway – BeautyLovesTech

Today we visited the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway in Palm Springs California. It is the largest rotating aerial tramway in the world, according to wikipedia. It’s about 100 miles (161km) East of Los Angeles, CA.

The Palm Springs Tramway goes up a shear mountain face to the top which is 8,516 ft (2,596 m) above sea level. At the bottom, you’re in the desert. At the top, you’re in the forest. It’s about 40° F (22° C) cooler at the top than the bottom.

At the top, there are a few nature trail loops that are nice to walk on, with beautiful scenery in every direction, including pristine views of the valley below. There are places to tent camp, but you better come prepared. It gets rather chilly at night! In the winter months there is even snow.

In the upper station, it is quite cozy inside. There are 2 restaurants. A nicer one and one that’s buffet-style, along with a bar on the far side. All 3 have beautiful views of the Coachella Valley below. Of course, there is also a souvenir gift shop, and video presentations that explain the history of the aerial tram.

The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway is a wonderful stop for lunch and short nature walk, aside from spending some time down below in the heart of Palm Springs.
